Day 4 – Keep Calm and Carry On

Went to CMU for a lecture. It was interesting attending a lecture at CMU and learning the history of Chiang Mai and how globalisation has affected the city.

Next up was the Amazing Race where we learned about leadership. It was a truly amazing experience. Fun, laughter, joy and stress. I would say the most important learning for me was near the end of the race at the hotel, with the stress of finishing the race within the time limit. I sort of lost my composure with the stress and started showing signs of frustration at the completion of the subtasks. Way too uncool. As a leader I shouldn’t lose my composure, moreover at such a small task. A leader should lead by example, and showing such a bad example wasn’t the way to do it. Lesson learnt: Keep calm and carry on, emphasis being “keep calm”. The debrief was equally amazing, using art to express our learning. This would be useful tool in future should I need to employ a creative way of debriefing.

Went to a bar in the evening. Played pool with the group and had a good time bonding over a bottle of beer and game of pool. If only life was that simple in Singapore. Chill the afternoon away and drink beer at night. Well, we got work to do. That’s a good retirement thought though. Back to reality.
