Day 5 – Young and Beautiful

We went to Tourism Authority Thailand (TAT) for an information session with the director. It was a very informative session, learning all about tourism in Thailand. I didn’t know that business meetings, golfers and wellness trips made up quite a portion of the tourism in Chiang Mai. Very enriching experience.

We went to chill out at a whole food restaurant and later at a café, spending four to five hours in total.  Absolute bliss just spending the afternoon chilling out.

In the evening, we went for a cabaret. Spectacular performance. The scenes got me thinking about the ladyboys in Thailand. Do they have a choice? Are they forced by circumstance to go through this for livelihood? Well, we will never know, unless we have another trip to Thailand for research on gender change? Life really isn’t a bed of roses. There are really times when we have to make tough choices, and deal with the even tougher consequences. It may look good on the outside, but we never know the pain that one has to go through in order to look good on the outside.

We then went for Thai massage at a massage parlour called Young and Beautiful Thai Massage. Unfortunately, the masseuses were all old ladies. The massage is supposed to make you young and beautiful though. Best massage in Chiang Mai so far. It was quite sad that we would be leaving Thailand for Singapore tomorrow. If only the trip was longer.
