Once again, it’s that time of the year.
After more than 15 years of being a student you’d think I would have gotten used to exams by now, but not really. Every semestral exam brings about thrills. (Last semester, I actually had a paper where the professor asked us to design our own question and then answer it!)
Anyway, the only good thing about exams is they provide excuses for lots of other unrelated stuff.
“Let’s have dinner together before the exams!”
“Let’s go for a buffet after exams!”
Pre-exam dinners, post-exam celebrations, mid-exam breather lunches – anything can be done in the name of exams, just to ease the stress a little. When it comes to stress relief, nothing else does it better than food.
Which is why I have this practice of giving out little personalised exam welfare packs to some of my friends just before the exam period.
What’s left of the exam pack I gave a friend
No, I’m not talking about the usual ones (with foolscap paper and miscellaneous stuff) that students queue for. Mine are personally packaged and filled with well wishes and lots of love… okay, hope your hair is not standing.
But really, I fill them with just about anything, as long as it’s good for chomping on/gulping down in the middle of the night to keep my friends awake. Potato chips, Yupi gummies, biscuits, Tao Kae Noi seaweed, Milo, Red Bull, Nissin cup noodles… you get the drift. Basically, all the unhealthy and sinful stuff because they keep you going (although I’m not really sure if that’s because of the calorie rush or guilt factor).
I’m sure my friends appreciate this act of goodwill. You can try it on your friends too. You won’t just boost their morale, but hopefully accumulate some good karma for yourself too (if you’re like me who desperately needs some).
Also, it helps your friends to put on more of the famed and feared “exam weight” – which results from infinite late-night binging and insufficient sleep. After all, what easier way to slim down than by making your friends look fatter in comparison? 😉
