Hello there! I’m Christine, a year 2 psychology student at Nanyang Technological University.

Welcome to my blog on the conservation of Sumatran elephants! This is my first ever blog about conservation and I was inspired to choose the species of the Sumatran Elephant after a trip to the Singapore Zoo this year!

There was an interactive feature involving some animals in the zoo called the “Vote for Wildlife” booth,  which allows visitors to choose which animal they would vote for, to allocate additional funding by the Singapore Zoo’s conservation projects on threatened local and regional species, to save them. The Sumatran Elephant is one of the species that visitors can vote for because it is one that is critically endangered. By this means of a voting system, it would let visitors feel that they have a role to play or have a say in the project that the Zoo is supporting. I remember the Sumatran Elephant being the species that had the highest number of votes at that time and I, too, voted for it even though I didn’t know beforehand that it was even critically endangered!

Through the making of this blog, I have learnt a whole lot about the Sumatran Elephant, its conservation situation as well the things that we can do to change their fates for the better. And I hope that you can learn some things from my blog as well!

Happy reading! (:
