Other than governmental efforts in the setting up of Elephant Conservation Centres and initially transferring ‘trouble’ elephants from agricultural area to ECCs or conservation areas and protected elephant habitats, another governmental effort would be in the undertaking of research.
The Indonesian Scientific Institution (LIPI) is the government authority for science and research in Indonesia and they value-add to the conservation efforts for the Sumatran elephant through the research they conduct.
They have engaged in scientific research such as wild elephant behavior and the counting of the elephant populations in Sumatra.
