Psychological Concepts

Human interaction and the reckless exploitation of the planet is causing the widespread endangerment of species. Loss of biodiversity (species richness and evenness) alters ecosystem processes and services that support human activity, which will have a significantly detrimental impact on human lives (Chapin et al, 2000). Experts have begun referring to this phenomenon as the sixth major extinction event. This scientific evaluation of ecosystems and environmental changes should be causing alarm and change. Indeed, there has been an increase in conversation and debates surrounding environmental issues, their causes, consequences and possible solutions. However, there hasn’t been enough change in human and cooperative behaviours. Therefore, to understand how to proceed with this lack of action, one needs to understand the underlying psychological processes that influence individuals and their approach to environmental issues.
