Roots & Shoots

The Roots & Shoots global youth program was founded in 1991 by Jane Goodall and today it has been established in over 100 countries. Jane once met 12 teenager who were desperate to tell her about their experiences of their local communities’ conservation and environmental problems. They wanted to discuss potential solutions for the issues. Jane was so impressed about their enthusiasm and energy, that she eventually developed the program to empower young people. The aim of the organization is to ensure people’s understanding of their communities by educate them about the issues, and inspire them to take actions in order to improve the environment and the life of both animals and people. In practice, they increase public awareness by campaigns and they take actions to improve conservation. For example, they help after natural disasters and help people to be prepared for it, they encourage people to donate leftovers to reduce food waste. They support compassion and respect for animals by encouraging people to eat less meat, and improving their habitats. They contribute to the improvement of the environment by reduces waist, recycling and educating about the impacts of human behavior.
