Activism

Beside establishing Jane Goodall Institute, the Roots & Shoots organization and traveling the world to keep public lectures, Jane is a board member to many activist organizations. To support animal rights, Jane used to be the president of the Scottish organization, called Advocates for animals which contest for animal right with the rejection of farming and animal use in several areas. She emphasized that not only chimpanzee but also animal-human conservation should be improved at the Understanding Chimpanzees Conference, in 1986. She contributed to the work of the biggest sanctuary in the world, called Save the Chimps. She is the ambassador of the Disneynature which makes nature documentary films. She is also a member of the Population Matters charity. Jane claims that animals are more intelligent then thought and that they are kept in awful conditions so she advices vegetarian or less meat eating for moral, health and environmental reasons. She has written letters to organizations which didn’t take into account animal rights or their environmental impact. She works every day to increase awareness of environmental and biodiversity issues and to encourage people to make changes.
