Through a Window: Thirty Years with the Chimpanzees of Gombe

In her 1990 published book, Jane Goodall tells about her first 30 years at Gombe Stream National Park. She explains the social network of the chimpanzee communities with their strong affectionate bonds including the process of mothering. She writes about a long-term war between the remains of a disintegrated community. It is the first documented long-range warfare among animals. She not only observed between group wars but also the existence of in troop brutal hostility: mothers kill rival mothers’ offsprings to maintain their dominant social status. It contains observations about relations, emotions, murders and provide a better understanding not only to chimpanzee society but for the human behavior and humans’ part in the world as well. This book is considered to one of the best books about animal behavior.
