Given the amount of time and resources invested into developing green spaces for Singapore, there must be some significance in them. Aside from their aesthetic purposes green spaces offer a wealth of benefits. From improving public health to contributing to the growth of the economy, green spaces are certainly invaluable to our nation. To me, green spaces are a sanctuary where my introvert self can seek solitude and rest. It is a place that boosts my productivity and allow me to get work done (I once camped out in the middle of botanical gardens to complete an essay in record time!). In the absence of traffic noises, green spaces relieve me of my worries as I allow the rustling leaves and the chirping birds to drown out my inner ramblings. Most importantly, I enjoy the time spent with family and friends. Botanic gardens, the Singapore zoo and even my neighbourhoods’ local park hold some of my fondest childhood memories.
