Providing Expertise

In other to truly transform Singapore into a garden city, detailed planning is essential. It boils down to even the smallest detail such as the type of species to plant and where exactly to plant them. NParks provides the expertise needed for such a project.

For instance, in 1970s when Singapore was still in the early stages of reorganising its greenery, the PRD gave its input on the type of trees to grow. Their main consideration was to find a tree that can provide shade and grows within a short span of time. Some trees can take up to 30 years to grow which was not be feasible for urban planning, therefore the PRD came up with a solution, which was to transplant rain trees and Angsana trees.

These trees were also known as ‘instant trees’. PRD also oversaw the management of trees and ensured that the saplings grown in optimal conditions before they were moved to their final locations.
