Introduction

In Singapore, life goes at a very fast pace, leaving Singaporeans with no choice but to hustle through their daily lives. This is especially so during meal times, where many people are crowding food courts and hawker centres, rushing to eat before heading home, or back to work. As such, many Singaporeans may opt for takeaway, otherwise known as, “dabao”. The amount of waste generated by the single-use plastics and non-recyclable items from a single packaged meal is detrimental to our environment, and yet, this problem can be easily mitigated if Singaporeans choose to bring their own utensils when intending to take food away.

Why then, are Singaporeans not taking this initiative?

Thus, this blog project will focus on using various psychological concepts to understand:
(a) why Singaporeans are unwilling (or unable) to make lifestyle changes, and thus,
(b) suggest (i) ways to help counter such attitudes and (ii) possible solutions.
