“This magical, marvelous food on our plate, this sustenance we absorb, has a story to tell. It has a journey. It leaves a footprint. It leaves a legacy. To eat with reckless abandon, without conscience, without knowledge; folks, this ain’t normal.” – Joel Salatin, farmer and author of Folks, This Ain’t NormalYou Can Farm

Singapore has long been touted as being a food hub in Southeast Asia. Due to our multicultural society, we have a wide array of foods to choose from, and indulge in. Coupled with the increased globalisation of our world, the variety of cuisines available in Singapore has increased exponentially. Furthermore, in today’s society, the availability and ease for us to get food is beyond belief. With the improvements in technology, gone were the days we were limited by our ingredients at home or by the geographic proximity of food shops. Now, any food can be readily delivered to us at the snap of our fingers! However, have we ever really thought about the impact of our food habits on the environment? Do we consider the effects of what we eat on the environment? Are we aware of the sacrifices being made to get that food on our table? As information becomes more widespread in our world, we are increasingly being made aware of the footprints our food makes. These footprints will thus be explored in this blog, and hopefully, we can make a change to help save our planet.
