Gore sees education as a crucial platform to raise awareness about the environmental crisis and coming up with climate solutions. Only with scientific knowledge about the environmental situation then can people start to create practical solutions and take concrete actions to engage in wise ways of preserving it. Since his early days as far back as his first book, Gore has been putting together slide shows about global warming, backed up by the weight of science.

His travelling slideshow has reached many parts of the world. Gore developed his slides over the years with recent scientific findings provided by the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change to showcase the dire climate change that needed immediate global attention. Over time, Gore did not only present those slideshows himself but also trained the public from different walks of life on how to present the slideshow to their respective communities through the initiatives of the Climate Reality Project. This wide-reaching effort educates more and more people through a growing network of interested and passionate activists.

GLOBE Program

While Gore was still serving his vice-presidency, he launched the Global Learning and Observations to Benefit the Environment (GLOBE) Program in 1995. GLOBE Program is  an international science and education program that provides students and the public worldwide with the opportunity to participate in data collection and the scientific process, and contribute meaningfully to our understanding of the Earth system and global environment. It is now active in 120 countries worldwide. Apart from promoting the teaching and learning of science, it aims to enhance environmental literacy and stewardship, and hence strengthening the student’s environmental identity as well.

“The global environment crisis is, as we say in Tennessee, real as rain, and I cannot stand the thought of leaving my children with a degraded earth and a diminished future.”
