Loss of place identity

Place identity is the feelings and association of the self with a place, usually towards a place of residence. The place that we identified ourselves with provides personal meaning. Another important component of place identity is place dependence. In a sense, humans need to have place dependence – we are dependent on a place, and we call that place our home. Not having a home is detrimental to human society. For Singaporeans, Singapore is our home. If Singapore is no longer sustainable for use, the waste all over the city prove too unsanitary for healthy living conditions, we can no longer depend on our home to live in, and thus we lose our place identity.
