Cousteau established the Cousteau Society in 1973, when he realised that an organised effort was needed to protect the planet. It now consists of more than 50,000 members.

Since 1973, they have been exploring the seas, establishing protected areas for endangered species and advocating for the world through films, lectures and writings. They convey the message that the fragile ocean must be nurtured and preserved for the common good for all mankind.

Even though Cousteau is gone now, the society continues to live out his legacy and motto in life. They carry out unique explorations and observations which help millions understand and appreciate the fragility of life on Earth, which is made of 70% water.
