Defending or Coping?

Turning Eco-Grief into Positive Life Strategies – 4 Key Points to Turn Eco-Grief Around.

  1. Defending or Coping?

To be able to turn grief into something positive, we would first need to take a closer look for pathways that led to grief and how can we rectify the current situation. This includes looking closely what are ways used to help someone who is grieving. Psychological strategies are used to alleviate grief – this includes using defending and coping.

Defending involves alleviating the symptoms of the emotional feeling; this also includes reducing the salience and awareness of the emotion.  It is an approach to relieve some of the symptoms of grief like distress; however, it deals with the serious consequence in failing to deal with the stressor.

On the other hand, coping involves confronting the source of the emotion and seek to find a resolution to help one to overcome grief. It also involves taking action and seek to reduce or eliminate causes of the emotion, not just only the symptoms.
