Background Information

As of 2014, there had been numerous reports of monkey-related incidents – 770 in fact, as reported by the Agri-Food and Veterinary Authority (AVA) and in just a short three years, the numbers spiked to 1,170 cases. On top of that, there had also been other cases of human-wildlife reports related to wild boars and snakes. In the case of wild boars, the numbers increased from a mere 30 cases in 2014, to 190 between January and September of 2017; 610 in 2014 and 1,100 reports in the first nine months of 2017 for the case of snakes (Tan, 2017). Even though these all showed an increase in the number of attacks per wild animal, I have chosen to use macaques as an example when delving into the psychological aspect of such occurrences.
