Animals in Research

Goodall continues to urge researchers and scientists to avoid using animals for research purposes but to seek alternatives instead. She openly declares her strong opposition to militant animal rights groups that utilises destructive means in their demonstrations. While Goodall expresses her helplessness at putting a halt to animal research, she believes that the scientists of the future generation should be educated to extend their humaneness to animals.

“The more we learn of the true nature of nonhuman animals, especially those with complex brains and corresponding complex social behaviour, the more ethical concerns are raised regarding their use in the service of man–whether this be in entertainment, as ‘pets,’ for food, in research laboratories or any of the other uses to which we subject them.” – Jane Goodall | Through a Window (1990)
