Nature Trail

I went on a nature walk at the Southern Ridges during the June semester holiday and the visit is incredible as I was surrounded by tropical rainforest at the majority of the time. I started the trail at Mount Faber Park, walking through the Marang Trail. As it was a up slope trail, I had a hard time walking up. However, one of the highlights of this trail is the loud buzzing and clicking sounds produced by the cicadas as it broke through the silence in the forest.

After the hike up to the Mount Faber Park, we walked past the Henderson Waves which is an iconic park connector and up to the Hill Top walk at Telok Blangah Hilltop Park. The park seems like a garden as there were many flora and fauna found alongside.

Next, I continued walking to the Forest Walk. There is an elevated walkway in the Forest Walk that provides a platform to spot a variety of biodiversity species such as birds, dragonflies, and butterflies. And I did spot some colourful birds. According to NParks, the variety of birds range from pink-necked green pigeon, straw-headed bulbul, brown throated sunbird and so on. It is great to see that these variety of birds are provided a shelter and haven, thereby protecting the biodiversity of the birds.

I proceeded on the trail and walked past another bridge which is known as Alexandra Arch. And sadly, I ended my trail experience due to bad weather conditions. But the trail that I was walking can bring me to the HortPark which is known as a gardening hub. The unique highlight of HortPark is that it comprises of 40 showcase gardens formed by different types of plants and flowers. Some flower biodiversity found in HortPark includes the Bauhinia Galpinii and Ruellia colorata. Next, the trail can bring me to Kent Ridge Park through the connector of Canopy Walk. The Canopy Walk is known to have a rich of biodiversity especially dragonflies.

I am captivated by the breadth of innovation of the built elements being fused with the natural environment. And this created into a wonderful trail lovers. I personally feel that the nature walks along the Southern Ridges are definitely an ideal place to experience nature in Singapore.
