Promoting Conservation Attitudes

A framework illustrating the relationship between the contact with nature, biophilia and the conservation attitudes

Beside promoting the benefits of the exposure of nature on the people’s well-being, biophilia hypothesis state that the contact with nature enhance conservation attitudes towards the environment and animals.  A study conducted in China states that the relationship between the children’s exposure with nature and their conservation attitudes can be mediated by biophilia. Children who experience affinity with the animals reported to have positive conservation attitudes. It further illustrated that the emotional affinity toward nature contributes significantly to pro-environmental behaviour. We can see that the emotional bond with nature is a critical force that drives and enhances people’s willingness to support the conservation of biodiversity.
