Water management along the Mekong River especially in the Lower Mekong Basin is necessary to ensure sustainable development in the region. However, growing demands for hydropower energy has led to the construction of dams, causing transboundary impacts further down. Thus, collective action among the countries located along the Mekong River is needed to ensure the sustainability of shared resources.

As the livelihood of many will be affected, it can cause feelings of ecological grief among the community. The psychological theories on how hazards are perceived and coped by individuals will be discussed.
