About Me

Hello there! I am Xue Yi, an undergraduate from Nanyang Technological University (NTU), currently taking a module on Conservation Psychology. This blog was created as part of the learning experience of the module.

I am sharing with you about ‘Recycling in Singapore’ because I feel that it is an underrated solution towards a more sustainable nation and that there is much potential to improve our recycling habits. Ever since I started depositing recyclables in the blue bins under my HDB, I realized that many of my peers, and I believe many others as well, are detached from the notion of recycling. Many are also unaware of the presence of recycling bins even though they are commonly found in public spaces and housing estates. Hence, I wondered, “Why are Singaporeans not actively recycling?”.

It turns out, in Singapore, the practice of recycling is a discretionary norm – it is considered good, but beyond the established norms. But I believe we can change that. After reading this blog, I hope that the importance of recycling would be clearer to you and that we can help Singapore become a more sustainable nation by recycling.

Thank you for your learning about recycling.
