#RecyclingRight campaign

In 2019, the #RecyclingRight campaign was launched to improve the public’s recycling knowledge regarding recyclable items and reducing contamination. Part of the campaign include redesigning and replacing the labels on the recycling bins, which was completed by mid-2020. This was in response to an online survey by the Ministry of the Environment and Water Resources (MEWR) which recorded over 70% of 1,300 respondents who voted for a redesign of the labels on recycling bins.

The improved design features clear messages such as “Recyclables only. No Food. No Liquids” to tackle the high contamination rate of disposals. Clearer images of recyclables and common disposed non-recyclables were also included as part of the new design. The improved label serves as a visual prompt and either impart or reinforcement of knowledge for the residents to deposit the correct items into recycling bins. This approach is useful in rectifying incorrect recycling practices as well as the lack of knowledge on proper recycling practices.
