Waste management in Singapore is efficient – to a fault.
Wastes are collected daily from shopping malls, residences, and factories and sent for recycling or incineration. Litter is also picked up regularly by public or privately-hired cleaners. Singapore’s waste management is transboundary – we depend on other countries to manage portions of our plastic scraps.
Because Singaporeans cannot visualize the actual amount of waste they produce, this encourages citizens to consume and waste more than usual, inflicting long-term damage.
