What You Can Do

Everyone has a part to play in reducing incidences on fires and haze. I outlined some simple things that all of us can do and I do hope that you’ve learnt something new and about the complexity of tackling this haze issue.

Be responsible consumers

Although we may find it hard to find products that are not intertwined in the palm oil industry, we can however try to purchase products that have been labelled as sustainable. This supports sustainable practices and forces firms that practice unsustainable practices to re-examine their business processes and practices. Lobby your MPs

The most important thing you can do is voice your concerns to your elected representative. Raising these issues to your MP will allow them to understand your concerns and table these issues in Parliament. This will not only normalise the conversation about environmentalism, it will also lead to new and more effective legislation being passed as the government starts to take the situation more seriously.

Educate and spread awareness

The more you know, the more you would be able to spread awareness of these issues and get other people involved. The only way that we’ll ever get out of this predicament is through working collectively and with the right information.
