So if you’re reading this blog, chances are you’ve heard about zero waste and mindfully preparing all your arguments as to why the zero waste movement is inconvenient, impractical, or just down right unrealistic. Or perhaps you’re in the other camp who’s never heard of this movement but the ambitiously-sounding name has intrigued you. In either case, there is a vested interest to have a conversation on this seemingly radical idea of ZERO waste.

I’d first like to give my honest opinion that the name is a misnomer. On the one hand, the extreme connotation of the movement namesake grabs one’s attention compelling them to find out for themselves what entails such a lifestyle. On the other hand, the movement also has an air of drastic changes in habits and daily living, which can be deterring even for the most zealous environmentalist. The good news is that the Zero Waste Movement is much more nuanced than bloggers and influencers would lead you to believe.

However, I didn’t want to go about discussing the movement without experiencing it first-hand. And so I did. For two weeks, I tried to go about my daily activities without generating waste as much as I could and documented my experience in a video. You can view that here.

I’ve noted down some of my hurdles, takeaways and tips & tricks for starting your own zero waste journey in this blog. I also discuss the zero waste movement in general, its tenets and what others (e.g. influencers, local organisations and government) are doing to support the change for a less wasteful future.
