Dr. Sylvia Earle excited in her natural environment!

Recognised by the Library of Congress as a “Living Legend”, Dr Sylvia Alice Earle is an American born oceanographer, scuba diver and research scientist who has contributed immensely to the marine research field. As a passionate researcher, she has shown her true dedication to the cause by contributing greatly via her research work in the field of marine life. She has since worked with many reputable organisations including the US government during her entire career. Additionally, she is currently a National Geography in-residence explorer.

In her entire career, Earle has led more than 100 expeditions across the globe, which involves more than 7,000 hours in research underwater. She pioneered numerous research projects with the aim of understanding the harmful effects of human threats such as heavy fishing, climate change and coral bleaching from rising sea temperatures on ocean diversity. Furthermore, she has authored close to 200 publications in the field of marine science and technology, and has lectured in more than 80 nations. Earle is also the founder of Mission Blue, an organization that promotes the expansion of preserved areas in the ocean. She constantly raises awareness of how our aquasphere is polluted and the occurrence of environmental degradation. She encourages us to conserve our environment, particularly ocean life, so that future generations can appreciate our beautiful marine species. As I read more about her, I can’t help but to be in awe of her contributions. Her commitment towards her work is unbelievable!
