Religious Diets

Religious Diets

Especially in Singapore, it is very well-known that different religions have different dietary requirements. If you read the class list from a random class in a Singaporean school, you will see a variety of dietary restrictions within the students, such as ‘Vegetarian’, ‘Halal’, and ‘No beef’. Most of the time, these dietary restrictions stem from religion. These diets involve the prohibition of eating animals, or certain animals, which has relations to how religion is connected to animals and wildlife. Hence, I decided to explore the reasons behind the different diets for three of the religions – Hinduism, Buddhism, and Islam. Click on the links below!

As the reasons behind most of the diets originate from the idea of how killing animals is wrong, I decided to explore the topic of animal sacrifices as well, which is the complete opposite of the said notion. Every day, the lives of countless animals are sacrificed around the world as offerings to Gods and Goddesses. In the lens of conservation and developing care for the lives of animals, these practices may not exactly advocate pro-environmental sentiments. As such, I have discussed the sacrifice of animals practiced in Hinduism and Islam. Click the link below!
