Concerned Groups

If you are interested in contributing or knowing more about the groups involved in marine and reef conservation, the following sites will direct you to the groups concerned. Some of them are of a global scale, whereas some are operating on the national or regional scale.

GreenPeace

Greenpeace is a group that is internationally known for its conversation efforts. They have petitions, activities and articles related to marine conservation.

ReefBase

ReefBase is a group that seeks to improve the network of data so as to better improve management of reefs.  Information is provided about coral reefs monitioring programmes in many countries.

WWF

WWF is another well-known organization. It has programmes dedicated to marine conservation and to creating solutions for sustainability.

Because I live in Singapore, I reckon it’s best to share information on the conservation groups in Singapore, so as to better spread awareness of them.

Blue Water Volunteers

Blue Water Volunteers is an NGO which is volunteer-based. It seeks to increase awareness of the threats to coral reefs and to match research to management efforts. There are 4 programmes under this group in which they seek to acheive their group of education and increased awareness: ReefFriends, ReefWalk, ReefTalk, ReefExhibit.

Underwater World SG

Underwater World SG is also a group involved and marine and reef conservation. They spearheaded a coral transplantation in 1997 and also educate the public. They also have collaborative projects with WWF.

Nature Society SG

Nature Society SG non-profit, NGO which is dedicated to the appreciation, conservation, study and enjoyment of the natural heritage in Singapore, Malaysia and the surrounding region.

Singapore Underwater Federation

Singapore Underwater Federation mission is to help improve scientific understanding of what our natural ecosystems provide to humans, and seek to ensure this knowledge is used in practical ways by bringing together scientists, policy makers, business leader and NGOs to impact the way Singaporeans value and use nature.
