Education

Education also serves as an important tool in raising awareness among people that giant panda extinction is a serious problem. It also helps to warrant immediate personal action. Education directs appropriate behaviours in solving this problem. For example, in 1997, the WWF had initiated a community-based conservation programme in Pingwu Country, Sichuan province. It taught the local people ways to protect the panda habitat without having to compromise their economic livelihood. This included training locals sustainable logging methods, introducing eco-tourism to order to generate income, and raising awareness about panda conservation16.
