Decreasing meat consumption

By decreasing meat consumption, one may reduce their own ecological footprint. This can be done by refraining from eating meat for just one day a week. In fact, if a four-person family were to do this, it would be equivalent to taking their car off the road for five weeks. In particular, if this same family skips a steak dinner once a week, it would be the equivalent of taking their car off the road for nearly three months (Reducing your Footprint, 2011)!

Over consumption, in itself is problematic. It is evident that in developed countries in particular, gluttony not only possible, but it’s celebrated. By not over-consuming meat products, it is possible to indirectly affect the environment in a positive manner.
