To gain a better idea of how bees are being managed in Singapore, I have made a trip down to a local pest control company to gain more insights. (Due to sensitive issues, the company name will not be disclosed in this section)
Through this trip, I have learned that the conventional way of removing a beehive is through the use of chemicals and by burning. However, since the start of 2010, fumigation has been used instead to remove the beehives. Fumigation is a mild insecticide that is used to disorientate the bees and then removing the beehives so that the bees killed in the process will reduce. In addition, there have been additional efforts being done to relocate these bee colonies. Furthermore, the pest control company is also working with the National Parks Board (NParks) and other related organizations to explore more variety of methods in removing and relocating the beehives safely without harming the bees.
Below are some of the photos that I have taken of the documentations of the past experiences with bees that the pest control company had during the visit.
