Green Fins approach – Community

Green Fins Introduction Video (2012)

The Green Fins approach is set to be implemented from 1st Jan 2013 to 31st Dec 2014 in Vietnam. Aside from fishing and climate change, the issue of tourism is also placing pressure on the natural resources in Vietnam. As diving and snorkeling activities become more common, the increase in frequency of such activities caused the conditions of the coastal areas to deteriorate.

The approach aims to reinforce the conservation efforts and management of coral reefs and coastal areas through encouraging a more environmentally friendly diving tourism. The community needs to recognise the harm done to the environment through diving tourism so that they can find a balance between sustainable management and the usage of the areas.

Locals, such as dive staff and resort managers, will be trained so as to spur the mentality that environmentally friendly practices need to be implemented following certain rules and regulations so that they can understand the threats that they can cause and their relationship with the environment.
