Overpopulation in China: How it happened

China is easily the largest country in the world, with a population of 1ONE POINT THREE billion people as of September 2013twenty thirteen.

So why is China’s population so huge?

What happened?

As mentioned earlier, The relationship between population and resources is dynamic. One influences the other. In 18nineteen eighty-seven, China went through major economic reforms/ It encouraged the formation of rural enterprises and private businesses, liberalized foreign trade and investment, relaxed state control over some prices, and invested in industrial production and the education of its workforce. This led to greater affluence for the people as they now have the means and freedom to earn money from having their own businesses.  This reform shaped the future of China too as we all now see China being one of the largest economies in the world. This reform brought in several opportunities for the Chinese. With greater affluence, the Chinese are able to have more children as they will be able to provide for the children.

In addition to that, Chinese culture play a big role in causing the overpopulation too. Chinese males have the responsibility of carrying on the family  lineage and thus having big families will be a source of pride for the individual.

Culture and other factors resulted in the mindset of the Chinese be changed and thus they prefer to have larger families. This might be the reason to the increasing birth rate along the years.
