Ecological modernization is an ideological guise as it draws the same logic of exploitative relations of production, as sustainability and capitalism is two different poles of ideology. Economic logic will always be more important than ecological and social logics as long as free markets exists.
An example is the Green revolution
Similar to the ideology of ecological modernization, green revolution use technological advances to increase the world’s food production and supply. However this increment did not solve the world’s hunger problem but rather undermined self reliant and sustainable local food system across the planet. Local crops was replaced with export orientated cash and luxury crops, animal feeds or biofuels are mainly being consume by the developed world. This leaves the developing countries exploited and unsustainable.
