Expanded Use of Solar Energy

If you are attentive to your surroundings, you would notice that there is an increasing number of solar panels over the years. This is because Singapore’s government has been pushing for the use of sustainable energy. Currently, about 176 HDB blocks are using solar power to light up common areas. Government will progressively expands solar panels installation to other blocks.

Centralised Chutes for Recyclables on Every Floor

Say YES to greater convenience! The government will be making it easier for residents to recycle with a centralised chute on every floor for recyclables. There will be two refuse hoppers to allow residents separate their thrash into general waste and recyclables. However, this is currently implemented in new Build-To-Order (BTO) flats. This has been proven to be successful in encouraging recycling. Residents of Treelodge@Punggol were found to recycle about 3 times more than those without centralised chute for recyclables. Hence, this is more effective than having a recycling bin under every block. The main takeaway from this would be that people are lazy and convenience is key to encourage pro-environmental behaviors.
