Social Groups

Macaques @ MacRitchieLong-tailed macaques live in groups ranging from 5 to 60 individuals (River Safari Singapore, n.d.). Each troop consists of an alpha male and a clear linear dominance hierarchy exists. Upon reaching maturity, males leave their natal groups to join new troops. Macaques also spend a lot of time grooming each other to form and strengthen social bonds (Wild Singapore, 2009; Animal Concerns Research and Education Society, 2015).
