The second session of Reproducibilitea Journal Club Season 2 was held on 8th April. The topic of discussion was reproducibility in neuroimaging. The session, facilitated by Reena Koh, was based on the article by Poldrack and colleagues titled “Scanning the horizon: towards transparent and reproducible neuroimaging research”.

The session began with a brief summary of the key points highlighted in the article which include:

low statistical power flexibility and exploration in data analysis multiple comparisons software errors insufficient study reporting lack of independent replications

A few suggested solutions were then briefly discussed, such as alterations to planning of analysis details, implementation of code, validation of data, and the dissemination of the papers.

Members then went on to share their experiences with reproducibility in analyses, and it was interesting to note that aside from neuroimaging, the problems mentioned were more or less similarly faced in other forms of data. Although it was agreed that the suggested solutions were worth looking into, many of us came to the conclusion that it was not a simple task and would need much more work.

Overall, it was an insightful discussion, and we are grateful for all who joined!

In our next session on 15 April (2-3pm), Shermain Puah will be leading the discussion on ‘Construct Validation in Social and Personality Research: Current Practice and Recommendations’. by Jessica K. Flae, Jolynn Pek, and Eric Hehman. Read the paper and join our Open Science chat at:
