This database offers access to high resolution images from the Folger Shakespeare Library, including books, theater memorabilia, manuscripts, and art. It is a good resource to explore more about the culture, people, art, costumes and fashion design during (or under the influence) of William Shakespeare (1564-1616). To date, the database contains more than 90,000 images. Users can show multiple images side-by-side, zoom in and out, view cataloging information when available, export thumbnails in various sizes, and construct persistent URLs linking back to items or searches.

Work Types Terms that identify the kinds of works in the digital collection being described. It typically refers to a work’s physical form, function, or medium in digital image collection. Values were obtained using the Thesaurus For Graphic Materials (TGM) by Library of Congress.
Openness Openness of the digital collection determined using the 4R activities by Wiley (2010).

Folger makes all the images under a Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike 4.0 International License (CC BY-SA 4.0). Permission is not required provided that “you cite the Folger Shakespeare Library as the source and you license anything you create using the images under the same or equivalent license“.
