Tree mast with owl from Ship of Fools
Out of the boughs about the mast peers what Demonts [Demonts, 1919, 4ff] thought was a skull, and what Tolnay [de Tolnay, 1965, 345-349] considered to be a carnival mask. Nevertheless, it suggests an owl, the common symbol in almost all the bestiaries of those blind to Christianity. (p.274)
