Time: 9:00am – 4:00pm
Venue: Jurong West HDB
Earth Hour is a global event and is held on the last Saturday of March annually, asking households and businesses to turn off their non-essential lights for one hour to raise awareness towards the need to take action on climate change. CDC Singapore has been organizing this event over the years and has been successful in their undertakings. In 2009, they arranged Earth Hour all over Singapore with participants from schools all over pooling in support and helping in achieving their goal.
This year Earthlink NTU has been invited by CDC to volunteer and show our support for their cause. This year Earth Hour will be held on 31st March and we will be sending volunteers from Earthlink, joined by volunteers from Singapore Polytechnic Environmental club, to Jurong West HDB flats. Volunteers from other JCs and polys will be sent to HDB flats all over and the aim is to cater to 100,000 households with our combined effort.
Volunteers will go door to door asking the people to sign a pledge the volunteers will present to them, which will require them to switch off their main lights for one hour during the Earth Hour. So, the main aim of this event is to actually make a difference by saving energy and also educate people about the importance to conserve energy. These pledges will be collected at the end of the day and there will be a final counting of the total number of pledges collected through a combined effort of students all over Singapore and if the required 100,000 pledges are met, the goal will be completed.
