Learning Trail at MacRitchie Reservoir

Unique to Singapore, the nation has established two separate systems to collect used water and rainwater.

Rainwater is collected through rivers, streams, canals and drains and stored in 17 reservoirs, which MacRitchie Reservoir is one of them. Various reservoirs are linked by pipelines so that excess water can be pumped from one reservoir to another, thus optimising capacity.

This aim of this event is for participants to gain more in depth knowledge pertaining to the Singapore Water Story through MacRitchie Reservoir, Singapore s first reservoir. The event also provides an opportunity for members to appreciate some of the challenges and constraints faced by Singapore where she has succeeded.

MacRitchie Reservoir was selected out of the 17 reservoirs in Singapore due to several reasons. As the oldest reservoir in Singapore, apart from the Singapore Water Story, MacRitchie s provides a rich history and heritage which dates back to the 1800s.

It is one of the four reservoirs that bound the nature reserves besides Lower Peirce Reservoir, Upper Peirce Reservoir and Upper Seletar Reservoir.

In addition, the reservoir now boasts a green two-storey car park and I believe that it will be an insight to many who has not seen one.
