NTreeU

NTU is located on the fringe of the Western Water Catchment- Singapore’s largest mature secondary forest. As a result, NTU’s forest patches harbour a rich trove of Singapore’s native biodiversity. In 2020, Earthlink’s Nature Guiding Team’s recorded a total of 144 unique species and 1320 individual organisms over just 8 days of campus-wide biodiversity surveys.

With ongoing construction projects such as the Jurong Region Line and CleanTech industrial park, existing forests in the area have either been cleared or fragmented. Increasing the size and quality of forest patches in NTU provides much-needed refuge for forest-dependent species that cannot exist within our urban spaces.

NTreeU aims to protect NTU’s precious green spaces by organising tree-planting sessions around the campus and promoting a culture of environmental stewardship amongst our students. The trees we plant support biodiversity, beautify, and provide shade around the campus. More info about NParks’s one million trees movement:

This Academic Year, we will focus on taking care of the ∽100 trees that we planted around our campus in February 2023 through our Sapling Protection Action (SPA) sessions. Through weeding and mulching, we give our saplings a competition-free environment with an abundance of nutrients to thrive on, allowing them to mature into trees that can contribute to NTU’s natural environment!
