Human-Wildlife Coexistence

The Human-Wildlife Coexistence (HWC) portfolio aims to educate the NTU community on proper wildlife etiquette through outreach and advocacy, to minimise human-wildlife conflicts on campus. We liaise with various stakeholders both within and outside of school, and work to promote a deeper understanding of the wildlife on campus and forge a safe environment in school for both the NTU community and wildlife to coexist in harmony.

HWC’s Activities

Our regular advocacy efforts mainly consist of outreach booths, mostly on-campus, to engage and educate the NTU community in new and innovative ways. Past efforts include our NTU Wildlife Etiquette Handbook, which describes in detail the appropriate steps to take when encountering different kinds of wildlife like macaques and snakes, and introduces some of the species that can be found on campus. As land use change and habitat fragmentation continue to happen on campus, it is becoming increasingly important for the NTU community to understand what it means to live amongst nature, and know how to properly coexist with wildlife.
