Locavore: (n) One who eats foods grown locally whenever possible.

A survey conducted by a group of students found that young adults lack knowledge about local produce and its benefits, and perceived difficulty in supporting it. This resulted in a campaign and ‘Singapore Month’ (a month long celebration of local produce) to raise awareness of farms in Singapore and encourage the consumption of local produce.
Apart from developing education and outreach materials, the team also provided a viable option for Singaporeans to support this campaign by collaborating with 10 F&B outlets to create new ‘Singavore’ dishes to promote the consumption of local produce.
The greatest challenge and triumph of this project was promoting an unusual yet ‘serious’ topic to a new target audience. This meant that we had to find a creative approach to promoting local produce, while balancing the need to convey important key messages.

About the Project Team
The team consists of Louise Jane Cher, Jamie Foo, Matthias Ho, and Nor’Huda Binti Mohamed Abidin. They are from the Wee Kim Wee School of Communication and Information. With food being so close to the hearts of Singaporeans, they feel it is important to know where food comes from, and what young adults can do to support local produce.
