Dance is the hidden language of the soul.
Martha Graham

Art is an expression that crosses the boundaries of ages, ethnic backgrounds and even disabilities. It has been known to improve and enhance the physical, mental and emotional well-being of individuals. Avenues such as dancing, music and movement have allowed volunteers to bond with beneficiaries and been a successful mode of therapeutic intervention.

Y-Dance is a monthly outreach programme conducted at Bishan Home for the Intellectually Disabled. Volunteers are paired 1-to-1 with their buddies to teach simple dance movements and through this programme, not only do beneficiaries enjoy a fun and exciting full body workout, they also improve their self-confidence and interpersonal skills. The dance moves taught are simple and easy to follow, conveying the message that anyone can dance!
