When Mother Nature speaks using her natural forces, humans usually only respond after the fact. Rather than working harder at preventive measures, relief efforts are organised after. Rainforest depletion, increasing global temperatures, rising sea levels… this ‘regression’ in the environment ironically results from humanity’s ‘progression’. Initiatives to protect and conserve have to be intensely and aggressively pursued to educate and encourage the population to step up on environment efforts to save our planet.
Ditch Da Disposables’ (DDD) initially began as a collaboration between various environment clubs to do their part to address the issue of disposables in their respective campuses.
Through DDD, Earthlink NTU organises the GreeningNTU campaign each semester to promote the initiative and raise awareness of the environmental impact of disposables and to minimise its usage. Using infographics to share tips to practice DDD in daily life, students are also informed about the potential environmental impacts brought about by disposables after use. The latest campaign included a walk-through tunnel that depicted the short life-cycle of a disposable fork from its production in the factory to its disposal at the landfill.
Human use, population and technology have reached that certain stage where Mother Earth can no longer accept our presence with silence.
