Explore Singapore was conceived with the idea of bringing beneficiaries of a children’s home out of their routine programme to explore Singapore in a different way.

Sunbeam Place, an entity housed under Children’s Society, is a residential home and gazetted place of safety for children who have been neglected and in need of protection, or whose parents are unable to provide proper care.

Volunteers were hall residents wanting to give back to society in whatever small way they can.

The first day of the event was organised together with NTU Air Rifle Club. Air Rifle Club meticulously planned a shoot for the beneficiaries, with a full introduction to the sport, and a licensed coach as an observer. The day was also filled with team bonding sport activities, a great melting pot for volunteers and beneficiaries to open up and emerge with stronger camaraderie.

The second day of the event gave beneficiaries and volunteers the opportunity to indulge in an indoor puzzle-solving activity, Xcape Singapore, which is a popular activity for children and adults alike. In the locked rooms under time pressure, it took teamwork and direction to guide the teams toward successfully overcoming the challenges. All the groups emerged ‘victorious’, having learnt to work together, lead and be lead, and looking at problems from a different angle.

The two days of interaction between the beneficiaries and volunteers made them more appreciative of each other and of their lives. Being grateful for our blessings and helping others sets the foundation for community building.

Life is always better with a smile.

About Hall of Residence 15

Over the years, Hall 15 has created an image for itself. Being a vibrant hall with its colourful and dynamic cultural landscape, it is no wonder that many of our events are also adopted in other halls, clubs and societies in NTU. We pride ourselves as being bold to accept challenges and undertake innovations to make Hall 15 prominent in the NTU hostel community.

We engage our residents with interesting events and activities to encourage social bonding and leading diverse lifestyles beyond just studying. To us, bonding is of utmost importance for a hall is not a home until every resident is seen as a member of the ‘Fiftian’ family.
