To many Chinese around the world, the Lunar New Year is a joyous time where families and friends get together to play, eat and chat. The elders would give red envelopes to the younger ones, as a form of blessing for the year. Many of the elders do not see their relatives frequently, and therefore the annual meetup during the Lunar New Year is an important one.

It is on this note that members of 21 Young Hearts (TYH) visited Bright Vision Hospital on 26 January 2018 to spread festive cheer to the patients. At the same time, through games and performances, the organisers had a secondary aim of helping those who do not celebrate Lunar New Year understand more about the festival.

This Lunar New Year celebration is an annual initiative of TYH and activities were modified to suit the medical conditions of the patients.

“It was a meaningful afternoon well-spent with the elderly from Bright Vision Hospital. It really warms my heart when I see them enjoying our games.” Kwen Jiayi, Student Participant
